The Research Funding Toolkit is based on a grant-writing workshop format created by Prof. Andrew Derrington. It was further developed within the ongoing Grants Factory seminar series at the University of Kent and in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Liverpool. Consequently, much of the advice and guidance in this book has been refined and tested by all the workshop leaders, participants, administrators and managers involved. We would like to thank them all for their support and enthusiasm. It is not possible to list everyone who contributed to the process but, in particular, we would like to thank the following colleagues and collaborators, past and present. For support in initiating the Kent workshops that inspired The Research Funding Toolkit: Prof. Robert Fraser, Dr Janet Haddock-Fraser, Prof. John Baldock and David Coombe.
For insights into the research funding process provided in their capacity as ‘Grants Factory’ seminar leaders at the University of Kent: Prof. Paul Allain, Dr Peter Bennett, Jenny Billings, Prof. Jon Williamson, Prof. Elizabeth Mansfield, Prof. Simon Thompson, Prof. Mick Tuite, Prof. David Shemmings, Prof. Peter Taylor-Gooby, Prof. Peter Clarkson and Prof. Dominic Abrams. To Dr Chloe Gallien, Dr David Wilkinson, Prof. Paul Allain, Gillian Brunt, Dr Frances Guerin, Dr Ruth Blakeley, Dr Nicolas Dumay and Prof. David Shemmings for reading sections of the book in draft and providing invaluable feedback.
